Director's Message

Welcome to the Web site of the Omaha Public Schools' Title I program. It is the largest Title I program in the state of Nebraska. The program serves approximately 15,023 public school students and 672 non-public school students. In addition to these 15,695 students, twenty-one social services agencies throughout the Omaha Metro Area are also served.

The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), and is based on principles that provide a framework through which families, schools, and communities can work together to improve teaching and learning.

The Title I program provides supplementary resources to support instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and helps provide an enriched and accelerated curriculum. The goal of Title I is to assist in providing a high quality education for every child. This program provides extra assistance and instruction to students who need it most. Title I resources are directed to school attendance areas with high poverty levels.

The Omaha Public Schools' Title I program is part of the district's process for school reform. The OPS district has a standard-based curriculum in every content area, clearly defined outcomes for student achievement, innovative initiatives and a comprehensive, professional development plan for paraprofessionals and other staff to meet the rigorous state and federal standards.

Your continuous support to improve student achievement for all students in our school district is greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,
Ms. Tina L. Forté
Title I Director
