Message from the OPS Board President
Lacey Merica, President
Omaha Public Schools Board of Education

We have come a long way in our search and have taken great strides to ensure that our next superintendent of Omaha Public Schools exemplifies the qualities and attributes that will help prepare our students for college, career and beyond.

The most qualified candidates were included in the list of semifinalist candidates brought to the Board by the search firm, and those candidates were invited to submit a video interview. Interviews were reviewed by the Board during the executive session meeting that took place Feb. 25.

A special open board meeting has been set for Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. At that time, the search firm will bring forth a recommendation to the Board for three finalists to participate in the final interviews.

Once finalists are chosen, there will be another phase of interviews by the board; the community will be invited to attend and “meet and greet” candidates. Those dates are tentatively set for the evenings of March 6, 7 and 8. More details will be shared in the days to come.

Our goal is to remain on track and as close to our original timeline as possible. We intend to negotiate a contract with a new superintendent sometime in late March.

McPherson & Jacobson, a national search firm and our partner in the search for qualified candidates, closed the superintendent application period on Feb. 8. A total of 33 completed applications were received from 19 states, including Nebraska.

The Board is working hard to identify and hire the best person we can find to lead our district, and we will continue to keep you informed via email, social media and traditional news media. Visit our Web site for the most recent updates:
