Board President Message

Update from Accountability Committee, Board of Education

The Omaha Public Schools Board of Education Accountability Committee met Friday, April 14 to discuss Interim Superintendent applicants for the role of Superintendent.

The committee recommended by a 3 to 1 vote to direct Board Officers enter into negotiations with Mark Evans for 2017-18 school year (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018). The full board will vote on the recommendation for contract negotiations at their regularly scheduled board meeting Monday, April 17.

The committee also recommended by a 3 to 1 vote that none of the applicants for the position of Interim Superintendent be selected as finalists.

“This decision was made in part due to Mr. Evans’ recent sharing of his personal position with the Board of Education this past Tuesday, April 11, in order to provide stability to staff and the 52,000 students in this district,” said Board President Lacey Merica.

An update was shared with applicants via email this afternoon. The recommendation to enter into contract negotiations with Mr. Evans will be included as an action item on the board agenda for Monday, April 17.

Accountability Committee Members include:
Lacey Merica, President
Marque Snow, Vice President
Amanda Ryan
Ben Perlman
