Middle School Students Compete in Poetry Slam

OPS middle school students recently participated in the district's biannual Poetry Slam held at the Pizza Shoppe in downtown Benson. During the event, which is hosted by the Office of Gifted and Talented, nearly two-dozen students read two original poems, had an opportunity to visit with professional slam poet Sarah McKinstry-Brown and collaborated with team members to write a poem on site. Judges rated the students on original composition, physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness and overall performance.
